Our Cathedral, Our Legacy

Dear Friends,

This weekend marks a special occasion for our parish. St Macartan’s recently embarked on an important initiative, entitled Our Cathedral, Our Legacy. You have been hearing about how this campaign will have a direct impact on our historic Cathedral, preserving and enhancing its beauty, safety and functionality for years to come. We are wholeheartedly committed to restoring and upgrading key facets of St. Macartan’s fabric—from repairing our historic stained-glass windows, securing the structure of the spire, repointing the stone, making safe the south and north roof, and now focusing our attention on the entrance.

Our Cathedral, Our Legacy is of vital importance to us both personally and pastorally. Since January this year, Father Leo and Canon Paddy have met with businesses, families and individuals in one-to-one meetings and group settings to share information and seek support. While we would love to meet everyone, time commitments just don’t allow but we want to give everyone the opportunity to hear about this undertaking.

May we invite you to share in our commitment and join us in making it a wonderful success. To play our part and to undertake these crucial refurbishments, we have established a goal of €2,500,000 to be raised in pledges by the end of this year. We know this is an ambitious challenge, but we are overwhelmed by the generosity shown thus far—70 faithful members of our congregation and neighbouring parishes have collectively pledged €1,400,000.

Now is the time to build on this success. In the coming week, information packs will be distributed in the post to each and every household. On receipt of the information pack, it is hoped that a member of our parish fundraising committee will be in contact with you by phone to respectfully ask you to consider supporting and answer any other questions you may have. We ask you to please consider what they have to say and to respond generously, if you are in a position to. If you do not receive a call, there will be volunteers and information packs including pledge forms available at Mass next weekend.
